We are halfway through month numero uno in 2016- how are your new year's resolutions & goals coming along? For many of us we might be hitting the reset button right about now if we've had a goal relapse, but that's okay we will be getting back in shape in no time & for singles finding your match would be a real bonus too. For me it's dry January- so far so good but there have been a few stressful moments where I've almost caved, I'm sure we can all relate; that's life.
So let's talk about dating and how January could be the perfect time of year for you to find an absolute fittie! Chances are many of us are hitting the gym more often in January and perhaps even popping along to those workout classes we have always wanted to try. Do not fear if you figure you might not have a moment to meet your someone as you are spending so much time on 'you' this month. The good news is that perhaps the most compatible individuals for you in the love department are doing exactly the same thing.
We all want to be matched with someone that takes good care of themselves and gives some thought to their health & wellbeing across the board, I don't think I have ever met one single person in my time as a dating expert that hasn't asked to meet someone who is keen on being active. It's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. Between working hard, working out and trying to maintain an active social life, sure it can be difficult for anyone to get out there meeting someone. No wonder so many people are resorting to the ease of dating apps.
Here are a few reasons why meeting someone in January in your pilates class or by the punch bag could have great potential to build momentum in a compatible relationship for the long-term.
You are both motivated. Going to the gym gives you a get-up-and-go attitude which quite frankly, I don't think anyone would find unattractive in my opinion. Sure you both work hard and work out hard too; perhaps there's a chance you both are heading in the same direction and want to end up on the same page. It costs nothing to say hello, who knows where it might lead.
You are both maintaining a good work & life balance. If you live in a big city such as London or New York you might need that outlet of working out to get away from the hustle and bustle and that inevitable chaos. Having a daily balance is essential. Something which has always been important to me, especially in my time as a matchmaker, is that if someone has time to work out they have time for themselves, thus, time for someone else. This is not rocket science but it does take a conscious effort to make room for someone else and to make a relationship work in the long-run. It's not just taking a couple of hours out of your diary for the first and second date but then I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that.
You have a more positive energy. You are both much less stressed, more relaxed as working out is proven to pump your endorphins and improve your mood. Let's face it, a positive persona is essential to find someone attractive instantly if everything else is there when it comes to dating. It is proven, especially in men, that happy is the most attractive look a woman can wear. (blog on this to come).
Commonality in passions and interests. When it comes to health, fitness & wellbeing. You know they enjoy the same things as you and are in a similar mindset to you too. You know instantly that they are looking to be more physically active, they are open to new experiences and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that being in shape lends it's to being more physically attractive to someone.
You're oozing pheromones. Simply a chemical response factor which triggers a response in the same species. Working out triggers the release of pheromones. According to an article in Scientific American "pheromone-esque compounds strike us like Cupid's arrow, investigators now suggest that a suite of chemicals emitted from our bodies subliminally sways potential partnerings. Smell, it seems, plays an underappreciated role in romance". Well there you have it, meeting someone at the gym could do wonders for our sex lives in 2016 too.
Meeting someone at the gym that you seem to find lots in common with is a great start. Afterall, do not forget this person has seen you at your worst and so they are undoubtedly going to love you at your best; why wouldn't they? Get a date in the diary, keep it casual and in your comfort zone, this is bascially the grounds you met on in the first place- at your local gym.
I think 2016 is your time to find a gorgeous fittie, the odds are stacked in your favour if you're a gym bunnie this January.
Happy Dating!
